Save Money With Your Thermostat You can easily save energy in the winter by setting the thermostat to 68°F while you’re awake and setting it lower while you’re asleep or away from home. By turning your thermostat back 10°–15° for 8 hours, you can save about 5%–15% a year on your heating bill—a savings of as much as 1% for each degree if the setback period is eight hours long. The percentage of savings from setback is greater for buildings in milder climates than for those in more severe climates. In the summer, you can follow the same strategy with central air conditioning, too, by keeping your house warmer than normal when you are away, and lowering the thermostat setting to 78°F (26°C) only when you are at home and need cooling.
Although thermostats can be adjusted manually, programmable thermostats will avoid any discomfort by returning temperatures to normal as you wake or return home. A common misconception associated with thermostats is that a furnace works harder than normal to warm the space back to a comfortable temperature after the digital thermostat has been set back, resulting in little or no savings. This misconception has been dispelled by years of research and numerous studies. The fuel required to reheat a building to a comfortable temperature is roughly equal to the fuel saved as the building drops to the lower temperature. You save fuel between the time that the temperature stabilizes at the lower level and the next time heat is needed. So, the longer your house remains at the lower temperature, the more energy you save.

Media storage cabinets, I remember once I posted a couple of fine designs and had you all write in. yesterday, I was going through some modern designs on storage cabinets for a client, and could not help smiling. They were fine things, at least some of them. So here I am, back with more ideas…. Shelving units in bamboo are cool and ‘green’, but for media I guess we need something more elaborate. I found these models on Spacify by one of my fave designers Rick Lee. And I just had to post, I am excited.
The one I chose had to do more with the kind of space and all. Personally, I feel all of them are nice. Sophisticated, may be a better word to describe the designs. Starting with Cascade two, it has a display(fits into the interiors we have on mind for my project) and is the one I chose. The glass showcase and pull out draws and cabinets are all good.
The top is for plasmas/LCDs, and I keep seeing possibilities of more uses, a bookshelf, for instance, or your media collection or something more….see it wants you to store more, and that’s the good part of Lee designs. The Cascade-4 is great for bigger spaces, it’s a classy design. The wooden shelves, the lit-up tempered glass shelves, the smart cut-out for wiring, cool wooden doors, and the cut outs in the wood shelf for air ventilation, all calls for considerate designing. Good work….

Living in a warm and humid Houston climate, often has its own set of challenges when it comes to maintaining the exterior appearance of your home. As a Houston siding company we are replacing old rotten cedar boards with fiber cement siding more than any other product on the market today. Customers are looking for a product that is low maintenance, durable, long lasting, looks and wears well for years to come. These are the main reasons that fiber cement siding has become a popular choice for homeowners wanting to remodel the exterior of their home. Hardiplank is more durable than real wood or vinyl siding because it is made from cement mixed with ground sand, cellulose fiber and other additives.
It’s also resistant to elements like fire and water, stands up great to termites and insects that usually cause damage to the exterior of a home with real wood. Because of its fiber cement backing, Hardiplank will never warp or rot and paint adheres to the surface better than wood or vinyl without the added worry of chipping or peeling. The fact that it has a 50 year warranty makes it very attractive to many homeowners. Hardiplank siding is available in sheets, lap and cedar shingles that look like wood, as well as a style that resembles stucco. Contact your local Texas siding company for more information and installation.

Making a decision to remodel your bathroom doesn’t need to be an expensive, stressful event. As a Houston bathroom remodeling company here are few tips we recommend to our customers to help keep things simple. The most important factor is your budget.
Sitting down and deciding on a budget will determine the type of bathroom remodel you can actually afford. A budget of $5,000 may work great for a small bathroom, allowing you a new toilet, sink, vanity, lighting, flooring and ceramic tile. But for a larger upscale remodel with many custom fixtures, wall demolition and heating flooring, $5,000 wouldn’t tip the scale.
Budget is everything when it comes to your remodeling project. Do not move current bath fixtures. Leaving existing fixtures in their original place will save a good portion of your remodeling money. Working with your current space and choosing the right wall color, will open up a room without the expense of removing an existing wall.
A simple updating of your current lighting, mirror, hardware fixtures, flooring and paint will yield dramatic results in your new bathroom. Consider being flexible when shopping for new bathroom fixtures. An average 5×7 bathroom doesn’t require a lot of ceramic tile, lighting or fixtures, making discontinued and close out items a great deal for your remodel. Remodeling on a budget can be simple and painless with a little upfront planning and creativity.

Originally developed by NASA for the space program, memory foam was designed to cushion astronauts during space shuttle takeoff. It was thought that memory foam could help to offset the extreme g-forces incurred during this time. Although memory foam never made it into space as originally intended, the medical industry adopted it for patients on bed-rest. Many resting patients suffered from painful pressure sores in areas of the body that support the most weight. But memory foam distributed patients’ weight in such a way that the incidence of these pressure sores was decreased dramatically.
At first memory foam was too expensive to be widely used, but over time its production price came down until it became not only available, but popular. Most commonly it is used commercially for mattresses and pillows. Medically, it is still used for seat cushions, mattresses, pillows, and more. Hospitals use and recommend it for persons with chronic back or neck pain or problems in posture. Memory foam mattresses are denser than ordinary mattresses.
They are not only heavier, but also more supportive. Because memory foam conforms to the body, it has the comfort of a soft mattress with the support of a firm one. This enables memory foam mattresses to give the best comfort and support simultaneously, while ordinary mattresses are able to offer only one or the other. Memory foam may be more expensive than innerspring mattresses, but they last much longer – about twenty years – while an innerspring mattress must be replaced every five years for sanitary purposes. For a little more money, memory foam lasts four times as long as an innerspring mattress, which may make it more economical in the long run.
Memory foam has natural heat-retaining properties, which is good for patients for whom heat will help to alleviate pain. But this is a major downfall for consumers who find the excess heat irritating and uncomfortable. Sleep Aid, a memory foam mattress manufacturer, has pioneered a solution to this common problem with their invention of Heat Reduction Channels (HRC). These grooves carved into the mattress surface enable heat to flow out of the mattress, keeping it at just the right sleeping temperature and helping to regulate your body heat. With affordable pricing, versatility of use, and new innovations, memory foam is an invention that has proved indispensable to modern living.

You get up every morning and walk to the back door, cup of coffee in hand. Your house looks great. The landscaping is fantastic. But it looks like someone beat your deck with an ugly stick. Deck staining can be a weekend warrior kind of thing, but do you really want to spend time away from your family?
Do you really want to get out there on that deck and pressure wash that old stain off? And do you really know what you are doing without causing damage to your wooden deck during deck cleaning? So many times homeowners tackle this project only to make their deck look like Zorro came over for a party.
In St. Louis deck cleaning should only be done with low pressure, anywhere from five hundred to eight hundred psi. The main objective in removing the old stain from your deck is to find the right chemicals to do the job. Patience is the true key when stripping a deck. Many times it takes multiple strips to remove the stain, followed by a process called brightening.
After the brightening stage is complete, it’s best to wait 24-48 hours to stain your deck. So if you are thinking about staining your deck, go to the hardware store and buy a new grill, some new patio furniture, and start planning that next family get together after you call a professional Missouri deck staining company.
