Modern Contemporay Lighting

March 7th, 2009

Each one of us has individualistic taste that reflects our lifestyle and preferences. When it comes to contemporary lighting, few of us pay attention to details, whereas a thoughtful approach can help you bring to life your very own home in ways that add drama and ambience to any space just the way you imagine…right out of the home décor books.

Traditional rattan pole construction takes on contemporary silhouettes for our Lina Lamp collection. The beauty of these hanging lamps is in the simplicity of the shapes. The lamp does not include a shade or diffuser so decorative bulb use is recommended to enhance the elegance. They are available in Rustic Black and Natural Antique finishes.

Save Money With Your Thermostat

September 11th, 2008

Save Money With Your Thermostat You can easily save energy in the winter by setting the thermostat to 68°F while you’re awake and setting it lower while you’re asleep or away from home. By turning your thermostat back 10°–15° for 8 hours, you can save about 5%–15% a year on your heating bill—a savings of as much as 1% for each degree if the setback period is eight hours long. The percentage of savings from setback is greater for buildings in milder climates than for those in more severe climates. In the summer, you can follow the same strategy with central air conditioning, too, by keeping your house warmer than normal when you are away, and lowering the thermostat setting to 78°F (26°C) only when you are at home and need cooling.

Although thermostats can be adjusted manually, programmable thermostats will avoid any discomfort by returning temperatures to normal as you wake or return home. A common misconception associated with thermostats is that a furnace works harder than normal to warm the space back to a comfortable temperature after the digital thermostat has been set back, resulting in little or no savings. This misconception has been dispelled by years of research and numerous studies. The fuel required to reheat a building to a comfortable temperature is roughly equal to the fuel saved as the building drops to the lower temperature. You save fuel between the time that the temperature stabilizes at the lower level and the next time heat is needed. So, the longer your house remains at the lower temperature, the more energy you save.

Why Hardiplank Siding Is Popular

August 26th, 2008

Living in a warm and humid Houston climate, often has its own set of challenges when it comes to maintaining the exterior appearance of your home. As a Houston siding company we are replacing old rotten cedar boards with fiber cement siding more than any other product on the market today. Customers are looking for a product that is low maintenance, durable, long lasting, looks and wears well for years to come. These are the main reasons that fiber cement siding has become a popular choice for homeowners wanting to remodel the exterior of their home. Hardiplank is more durable than real wood or vinyl siding because it is made from cement mixed with ground sand, cellulose fiber and other additives.

It’s also resistant to elements like fire and water, stands up great to termites and insects that usually cause damage to the exterior of a home with real wood. Because of its fiber cement backing, Hardiplank will never warp or rot and paint adheres to the surface better than wood or vinyl without the added worry of chipping or peeling. The fact that it has a 50 year warranty makes it very attractive to many homeowners. Hardiplank siding is available in sheets, lap and cedar shingles that look like wood, as well as a style that resembles stucco. Contact your local Texas siding company for more information and installation.

How To Remodel Your Bathroom On A Budget

August 12th, 2008

Making a decision to remodel your bathroom doesn’t need to be an expensive, stressful event. As a Houston bathroom remodeling company here are few tips we recommend to our customers to help keep things simple. The most important factor is your budget.

Sitting down and deciding on a budget will determine the type of bathroom remodel you can actually afford. A budget of $5,000 may work great for a small bathroom, allowing you a new toilet, sink, vanity, lighting, flooring and ceramic tile. But for a larger upscale remodel with many custom fixtures, wall demolition and heating flooring, $5,000 wouldn’t tip the scale.

Budget is everything when it comes to your remodeling project. Do not move current bath fixtures. Leaving existing fixtures in their original place will save a good portion of your remodeling money. Working with your current space and choosing the right wall color, will open up a room without the expense of removing an existing wall.

A simple updating of your current lighting, mirror, hardware fixtures, flooring and paint will yield dramatic results in your new bathroom. Consider being flexible when shopping for new bathroom fixtures. An average 5×7 bathroom doesn’t require a lot of ceramic tile, lighting or fixtures, making discontinued and close out items a great deal for your remodel. Remodeling on a budget can be simple and painless with a little upfront planning and creativity.
